Pontypool Town - 1
GILWERN FC opened the new season with a 12-1 victory over Pontypool Town on Saturday.
The new outfit started the game with great enthusiasm and took the lead in the first five minutes with Kieran Shevlin's (4) first goal.
The defence of captain 'Webby', Blair Keane, Luke Mears and 'Joey' McCarthy were solid throughout and Gilwern quickly added a second through 'Spud' Randall (2) following a delightful through ball from Daniel Gandera who was controlling the midfield superbly.
The Gilwern goals continued to flow from Adam Carrington (4) and Ben Bergoyne (1), however, their defence suffered a lapse of concentration and Michael Morrison scored for Pontypool Town much to the annoyance of coach Mazza and Manager Tony Carrington.
The second half saw much of the same with Richard Langley proving too strong for Pontypool in the middle of the park. Mears took a nasty knock early in the second half and was replaced with Dan Hook who did an admirable job in goal releasing Craig Walters to bolster the midfield. Gilwern were ruthless in their pursuit and goals kept coming, even forcing an own goal from the Pontypool defence to run out 12-1 winners.

New Inn - 1
CRICKHOWELL hosted New Inn at the Elvicta on Saturday and their first goal came within ten minutes when Micheal Ling broke through the New Inn defence to slot home his first goal.
Ling's second came after some composed passing between youngsters Dylan Thomas and Adam Cook sent him through .
Within five minutes of the restart David Harris increased Crickhowell's score line with a sweet strike into the bottom corner. New inn changed their formation and managed to pull a goal back but the young Crickhowell defence held out to win the game 3-1.
