ON Saturday Abergavenny Town Girls under 11s played an exhibition match against Sully Sports Girls as a curtain raiser for the cup final.

It was an excellent performance by all the Abergavenny girls who won 5-3 against a Sully Sports side consisting of mainly U13s.

The first goal came from Bethan Parry-Jones who had a great game on the right side of midfield. Captain Georgie Jackson scored the second and then the third after some fantastic play by Luca Baricz, who was outstanding in the middle of the park.

Shannade Lewis-Devonauld also impressed in midfield with a fantastic display of grit and determination.

The fourth goal was scored by Cara Kelly after some great play again by Parry-Jones down the right. Kelly showed tremendous courage to slide in at the far post to steer the ball into the net, which was deserving reward for her hard work as a lone striker.

The defensive efforts at the back of Libby Fury, Molly Hannam, Bella Wilce and Heidi Ellaway also deserve special mention, as Sully pushed hard for a period of the game, which also resulted in goalkeeper Olivia Thomas having to make some good stops.

Bryony Bartlett, Caitlin Skinner and Carys Jenkins came into midfield, and all three worked tirelessly to weather the Sully storm.

The defensive team effort paid off for Abergavenny as Izzy Dennis made one of her many runs of the afternoon to set up Georgie Jackson for the final goal and her hat-trick.

Abergavenny Town girls currently have an under 7s, under 9s, and under 11’s section and will also have an under 13s next season. The teams train on a Wednesday night at Pen-y-Pound and new players are more than welcome. Please contact Dave James on 07813 912594 for further information.
