ABERGAVENNY Auto Club members have enjoyed a mixed start to the season's motorsport. Macaulay Austin chose the 'Ross Traders Endurance Rally' as his baptism into rallying. Navigated by the experienced Phil Jones, they gradually worked their way through the field, only to retire after seven tests with ignition failure.
Meanwhile, Martin Watts entered the 'Wiscombe Park Hillclimb' in his GTM. Despite being down on power compared to others in his class, he put in a spirited drive on both days, coming home with a brace of well-earned second places.
The following weekend, Martin entered the 'Landow Sprint' in his 'Riot' special. Sadly, Martin was caught-out by an unexpected rapid change in the weather. On slick tyres, full throttle and just starting his flying lap, a sudden deluge made the track a river. It could only mean a big spin wasn't far away, and boy, did he spin! A hair-raising, tyre smoking, full power, 3600 spin.
The Abergavenny Auto Club organised 'Clifford & Elizabeth Llewellyn Memorial Trial' saw Joel Edwards take an excellent victory, dropping just 16 points.
Abergavenny Auto Club meet at 20:30 on the second and fourth Tuesdays at the Nevill Hall Social Club, and new members are assured of a warm welcome. Further details can be found at http://www.abergavennyautoclub.co.uk">www.abergavennyautoclub.co.uk
