IN their final match of the season, Abergavenny Squash Club's 'A' team beat Llanelli 'A' 4-1, and then learnt that their rival, Newport 'B', had lost 4-1, thus ensuring a third place finish in the league. This is a fantastic achievement for the club and their highest finish ever. As usual, the club's top three players, Jethro Binns, Lewys Hurst, and Chris Hill, performed admirably, all winning 3-0, and Mike Logan, whowas promoted from the second team, won a close match 3-2.

The 'B' team won their final match of the season 4-1 against the league leaders Newport 'D' in a very creditable performance. Mike Logan, Gary Lawrence, and Carl Whiteman had comfortable victories, while captain Chris Phelps ground out a win in five sets, having gone 2-0 down. As a result, the side moved up one place, and finished the season in fourth position, which is a great team effort following their promotion.

The team will return to Gwent Division Two and recommence a campaign for a swift return in September.
