LLANGATTOCK riding instructor Fiona Griffiths has qualified with her horse Dear Kate to ride for the Endurance GB World Class Development Squad.
Fiona, from Golden Castle Riding Stables, said, "Over the last year my horse and I have worked hard for the opportunity to compete internationally and hope to be selected to represent our country in Belgium this May.
"The last year has had many ups and downs, with much racing and training to improve our performance, Kate and I have travelled all over the country to gain experience and qualifications.
"Being part of a strong team with back up provided by my family and friends from Golden Castle has helped us achieve so much."
Fiona added, "Endurance is an extreme sport and not that well known. It is all about a partnership between horse and rider. At the top level it is about the ability to travel distances up to 160k in the shortest time with a fit horse.
"There is strict veterinary monitoring of the horses welfare at all stages. At the introduction level anyone with a sound horse of any type can do very well. Starting with 15k training rides and progressing to 30k competitive rides. There is something for everyone from the person who likes to go slowly, to those who want to race.
"If anyone is interested in endurance riding or would like more information please contact me at [email protected]">[email protected] or go to http://www.endurancegb.co.uk">www.endurancegb.co.uk ."
