FRIENDS and fans of Crickhowell are being urged to vote for the town in the Great British High Street competition.

The town’s commercial centre has been entered for the competition by the team behind The Corn Exchange project – which recently successfully converted the former High Street pub into shops and flats.

Crickhowell has no national chains in the High Street, only independent and family-run businesses.

After entering the competition, Corn Exchange Crickhowell Ltd’s communications director, Tim Jones, said, ‘Some of our shops have been run by three generations of the same family and deliver exceptional customer service, enjoying huge support within the town. We stand a good chance in the competition, but we need people to vote for us.’

‘Supporters of the town can vote by posting the words ‘Crickhowell High Street’ and the hashtag #MyHighStreet on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Unfortunately, that’s the only way to vote. If you don’t have social media accounts, please ask a friend to vote on your behalf.’

‘The Corn Exchange project demonstrated the passion people who love Crickhowell have for the town and we hope they will support us again’, Tim said.

The application pointed to the town’s volunteer-run CRiC centre, the hugely successful Walking Festivals, Arts Trail, Music Festival, Literary Festival and Christmas Market as examples of ways in which townspeople work together to attract people to Crickhowell all-year-round so that the town can stay vibrant.

The competition rules state that 5 per cent of the population of Crickhowell need to vote to secure 30 per cent of the overall points. The rest will be allocated by a national panel of judges.
