Tourism businesses could get £10,000 in grants from Monmouthshire Council to boost their accessibility

Tourism businesses in Abergavenny are being urged to apply for a new grant designed to improve accessibility and ensure more people can enjoy everything Monmouthshire has to offer.

The Visitor Accessibility Improvement Grant offers funding for up to £10,000 for private enterprises to improve their own accessibility for visitors. The scheme is funded by the UK Government’s Local Growth Fund in Wales and aims to make Abergavenny and the whole county a destination that can be enjoyed by everyone.

“We want everyone to be able to enjoy our county, regardless of age, mobility or additional needs,” said Cllr Sara Birch, Monmouthshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, Housing and Tourism.

“This scheme will help tourism businesses make practical improvements to create more inclusive and welcoming experiences. I encourage eligible businesses to find out more and take advantage of this opportunity to help us make Monmouthshire a destination for everyone."

Previous funding has already helped support the installation of a hearing loop at the Savoy Theatre in Monmouth and improvements to the Gilwern Picnic Area along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.

Monmouthshire County Council has also said it is leading the way on accessible tourism through its own facilities. Gilwern Activity Centre offers inclusive outdoor experiences such as adapted cycling, all-terrain wheelchairs and a wheelchair abseil ramp.
