Brynmawr Welfare Bowls Club welcomed back John Broad into the fold when they played Chepstow away on Sunday.

Although John, who underwent surgery three months ago is still not well enough to play bowls he accompanied Brynmawr and enjoyed a relaxing sunny afternoon sat on the veranda supporting his team mates. His club look forward to John playing with them again next season.

With Chepstow being at the top of the league, Brynmawr knew they were in for a difficult afternoon.

Cecil Probert's rink fell behind early on four points to seven, but taking five points on one end put the Brynmawr Rink up by one point.

There was a moment of controversy as Norman Doel measured a very tight wood situation in favor of Brynmawr.

The Chepstow second intervened, which he should not have done, by placing another wood against the Chepstow wood being measured.

By committing this fatal error he moved the Chepstow wood forward giving the point to Chepstow, so Norman insisted in bringing in an adjudicator.

The adjudicator ruled that that the second should not have got involved in the proceedings, and that as the wood had been moved by a Chepstow player they could not have the point. To the disgust of the Brynmawr rink, the adjudicator said the end should be replayed, costing the visitors a much needed point.

John Smith's Rink rink fell behind at the beginning of the match only to take the lead for the first time on the last but one end, but then lost three points on the last end to lose the match.

Chris Rees rink went 4-9 down then 5 -23 down, before losing 10 – 27.

Lyn Elias rink played well all afternoon, but despite being 10 all at one stage, lost by only three points at the end.
