FOLLOWING a stuttering start to the season, which saw them limp lamely away from two consecutive 2-0 defeats, the Thursdays found their form on Saturday with a 3-1 demolition job on Villa Dino Christchurch.

Club secretary Chris Wilkins told the Chronicle, "We really dominated in the game against Villa, and the main reason is because we had the luxury of a handful of key-players returning to the fold.

"For our first two games of the season against Underwood and Whiteheads, our defence was under strength due to the unavailability of certain players, resulting in other players being played out of position.

"Which resulted in a scenario where we had all of the quality on the pitch, but with players performing as individuals rather than as a team .

"It's very disappointing to concede four goals and score none in your opening fixtures, but our defensive problems have now been rectified and we're firing on all cylinders once again, as this latest result serves to prove."

In a game which the Thursdays dominated from end to end, it was Andrew Hammet who drew first blood with a strike shortly after the start of the second-half.

This was followed by a close range shot by Steve Collet from a corner, and a header by Leon Gilchrist.

Villa had little in way of reply, but did manage a consolation goal late in the game.

Wilkins added, "I think the only reason Villa got that goal, was because our blood was up and the boys wanted to put another three or four goals on them.

"Of course, this style of play leads to you being exposed at the back, and giving away soft goals, which is not something we want to make a habit of doing.

"However, if we can go on scoring more goals than we concede, we're obviously doing something right."
