The closing date for Abergavenny’s high street branch of the UK’s largest coffee chain has been announced, and locals have less than two weeks left before the cafe shuts its doors for good.

Costa landed on High Street in Abergavenny in 2013 and has been serving the busy market town since 2013. But after weeks of rumours around town a sign appearing in the window of the popular coffee shop has confirmed it will close on Monday September 21.

Retail and leisure property specialist, ejhales, is looking for a new occupant for the soon-to-be former Costa and describes the property as being in a “prime” location.

The Chronicle asked Costa why it had decided to leave the town centre after 13 years, making it the second national company to close a venue in Abergavenny this month alone. In September 7, Brewer’s Fayre, in Llanfoist, shut for good. In a statement, Costa confirmed the staff members at Costa High Street have been offered roles elsewhere.

“We can confirm that our Costa Coffee store on 11 High Street, Abergavenny, will close on September 21 2026,” a spokesperson said.

“All our talented team members have been offered opportunities to relocate to surrounding stores. The local community can continue to enjoy their favourite Costa coffee at our nearest Drive Thru store in Llanfoist, Abergavenny.”
