This year's Monmouthshire Seafood Fayre has announced that it is to support one of the area's favourite charities, In The Pink breast cancer research.
The event, which takes place on Sunday, September 14 in Abergavenny Castle, holds a charity auction each year in support of local causes, and this year has chosen In The Pink as its beneficiary.
The charity, known across South Wales for its fun and well-supported charity walks, has done much to support cancer research carried out at a joint venture between Velindre Hospital, Tenovus Laboratory and the University of Wales. Liz Sullivan of In The Pink says: 'We are so pleased that the Monmouthshire Seafood Fayre has chosen us as their charity this year. We are overwhelmed by the increased support that we are getting from outside groups, which goes to show that this is a subject close to many people's hearts.'
To get everyone in the spirit, the organisers are asking that everyone planning on attending this year's event wears something pink to keep in the spirit of things.
Event coordinator Cressida Slater commented: 'It is a pleasure to be able to support In The Pink. The group behind the charity are so passionate and enthusiastic about what they do it's good to give something back and, with everyone's support, that will hopefully be in the form of a sizeable cheque.'
Monmouthshire Seafood Fayre is host to the Welsh Oyster Opening championships, sponsored by Oyster Pools and Leisure, now celebrating its tenth year. T
he best of Welsh chefs and fishmongers come to compete at the event to win the chance to represent their country at the world championships in Galway at the end of September.
Oyster also sponsors the Oyster Pearl 2008 competition for the Best Dressed lady. As well as the entertaining competition, guests are treated to a champagne reception, a free oyster bar all day, a seafood buffet lunch and live entertainment.
