The Raglan Cafe at the new Monmouthshire Livestock Centre is one of six market cafes from across the UK nominated for a Mart’s the Heart award sponsored by the Farmers Guardian.

Opened in November 2013, the market cafe is run by Maria Bayliss, offering home-cooked quality foods using local suppliers. Maria’s daughter Chloe makes the cafe’s cakes and puddings, all sold at reasonable prices.

Seeing more farmers with dietary problems today, the cafe offers an alternative healthy menu.

“I’m lucky to have such a hard-working and fun team of ladies and I must not forget my son Joe who turns up for work at 5.30am. They make the cafe an extremely friendly place to enjoy a cuppa or meal,” she said, adding “All my staff take time out to chat with individuals of the farming community.”

The best cafe award is one of three new awards launched this summer under the Mart’s the Heart banner.

The other nominees are in Shrewsbury, Carmarthen, Ludlow, Wigton in Cumbria and Gisburn in Lancashire.

The winner will be chosen by public vote. For more information or to cast your vote log onto: martstheheart.co.uk
