A turn out of 76 per cent saw 54,533 people having their say on whether the UK should stay in the European Union.
Counting started at just after 1am following a speedy verification process.
Chief executive Paul Matthews said that more than seven thousand new people had registered to vote since the Welsh Assembly elections five weeks ago.
