A new smartphone app will bring local residents closer to the running of council services which directly affect them, according to county councillors.
The My Monmouthshire app will allow users to quickly contact the council to report incidents or make service suggestions, using their smartphone or computer.
By taking a photo, or video, residents could, for example, instantly report pot holes, dog fouling, or a broken street light by capturing the details and submitting them via the app.
The app will also feature news updates and feature local service information such as waste collection, job vacancies, transport timetables and school data.
MCC are encouraging residents with a smartphone to download the application from their app store. Android users can find it in Google Play, whilst the iPhone app can be downloaded from iTunes.
Councillors hope the initiative will bring residents democratically closer to the services which most affect them.
“Councillor Bob Greenland, Monmouthshire’s cabinet member with responsibility for innovation said, “This fantastic initiative is part of a programme to improve customer service.
“The My Monmouthshire app will enable more and more people to engage with the council in real time.
“It will make it much easier for residents to access information and report any problems to us, so we can respond faster.
“I would urge everyone to download the My Monmouthshire app and tell their friends and family about it.”
