The new eagerly awaited Monmouthshire Housing Lys Cadoc development at Raglan was officially opened by Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay on Monday.
Built on the site of the former older people’s sheltered accommodation at St Cadoc’s Court, Lys Cadoc will give people with a local connection to Raglan the opportunity to rent an affordable family home.
The development is made up of three three-bedroomed houses and seven with two bedrooms.
Councillor Penny Jones was also in attendance at the opening event.
Speaking after attending the launch at Raglan Baptist Church, Mr Ramsay said, “St Cadoc’s Court has a long history of providing sheltered accommodation in Raglan. It was Monmouthshire’s first purpose-built elderly care community when it opened in 1970, consisting of 24 older people’s flatlets with a communal lounge and warden’s dwelling.
“The following year the Court was awarded the Housing Medal Award for Higher Density Local Authority Schemes.
“Many people have happy memories of St Cadoc’s Court and were saddened when the building was demolished, having been deemed unfit for purpose.
“I hope the Lys Cadoc development will be equally successful—there is a genuine need for affordable housing in the village.
“This is another impressive development by Monmouthshire Housing. We need more affordable homes for local people, and Llys Cadoc helps achieve this goal.” ?
