THE LLANFOIST area could be in for a cash injection of £333,064 if the local authority's cabinet members agree to use funding set aside by the developer of the Cooper's Filters site for use within the community reports ANDY SHERWILL.

Barratt Homes, the developer behind the transformation of the industrial site, has already deposited half the amount with Monmouthshire County Council as part of their Section 106 agreement following the occupation of their 50th dwelling.

The remaining balance becomes due when the estate's 100th house is sold.

It has already been decided that the principle area to benefit was to be nearest the development and defined as the Llanfoist Fawr Community Council area, which is predominantly the ward of Llanfoist.

And if members agreed to the scheme, which was due to be debated at yesterday's Cabinet meeting, will see various organisations from the Llanfoist community benefiting from a range of grants.

The Llanfoist Villagers Association will use their £135,000 allocation to enable them to have an extension built onto the existing village hall; Llanfoist Fawr Community Council has been granted £122,000 that will be used for the levelling of village playing field and recreation ground to create a new Multi Use Games Area along with an additional £21,400 to refurbish Govilion's sports pavilion; Llanfoist Fawr Community Council will be spending £20,000 to purchase the former Llanfoist School playing field so that it can be used by the community as a new public recreation space; Llanfoist OAP Hall will benefit from a new loop system installed at a cost of £4,164; CAIR, Monmouthshire's Disablement Association will be using its £9,000 grant to make accessible pedestrian routes through the village of Llanfoist and the management team behind Llanfoist Parish Hall have been allocated £21,500 for structural improvement works to the building.

The developer has also set aside additional funding of £42,000 on completion of the development for off site recreation provision.
