LLANARTH stay top of the Premier Division following their 3-2 victory in extra time over Pontypool Town.

Michael Morgan and Leon Zeraschi scored to make it 2-2 for Llanarth after normal play and Daniel Wheeler won the day for Llanarth with a strike in extra time.

Llanfoist recorded their first win in the league this season when they bounced back from a 2-1 half-time deficit away to Usk and went on to win the match 3-4.

The Llanfoist goals came from Ian Johnson (2) and Gareth Williams.

All three Usk Town goals were scored by Joe Henry.

Gilwern and District were at home to Pandy where they went into a 2-0 half-time lead. Kieran Shelvin put Gilwern 1-0 up after ten minutes when he tucked the ball into the Pandy net from close range. Chris Perry scored from a header after 30 minutes to put Gilwern 2-0 in front.

Early in the second-half Pandy pulled a goal back and Chris Morgan put Pandy all square with a scorching shot.

Yet with ten minutes remaining Kieran Shelvin bagged his second from a shot 20 yards out to give Gilwern a 3-2 victory.

Raglan got the better of Crickhowell in their own back garden as they beat them 2-5. Raglan's goals came from Martyn Dembicki (2), David Elias, Jamie Reynolds and Justin Harris.

Rob Young scored both Crickhowell goals.

Performance of the weekend went to Govilon AFC who travelled to face Division One leaders Panteg and returned home with all three points after mauling the home side to the tune of 6-0. Leading at half time through a solitary Ben Burgoyne goal, and a stout defence well marshalled by keeper Craig Williams they introduced man of the match Lewis Meadows at the start of the second half who rewarded manager Robbie Whistance with a five goal haul.

Second-placed side Tranch lost 4-2 away as Clydach Wasps laid them to waste through a hat-trick by new signing Adam Carrington and a strike by Tyrone Gravell.

Blaenavon Blues collected maximum points from their visit to Pilcs with a 1-2 win courtesy of goals from man of the match Adam Johnson and Steve White.

Mardy suffered a dismal 0-5 defeat at the hands of Cwmffrwdoer. Mardy's man of the match was Matthew Lynch.

Current Division Two leaders Prescoed lost their unbeaten record when they were beaten 2-5 at home by Clydach Wasps 'B'.

Clydach goals came from man of the match Ben Ward (2), Neil Evans, Greg Lewis, and Jasper Morgan.

Goal scorers for Prescoed were Gareth Wesson and man of the match Lloyd Shirley.

Blaenavon Blues 'B' beat Pontypool Town 'B' 2-5 after David Matthews (2), man of the match Jack Rose and Andrew Telfer all netted.

Usk Town 'B' won 2-3 away at Bailey Park against Mardy 'B'. Strikes for Usk came from Ben Adams, Rhys Brooks and Adam Glencross.

Man of the match for Usk was John Paul Glencross.

Man of the match for Mardy was Gavin Simmonds.

On a final note, the league was saddened to hear the death of former Blaenavon Blues secretary Mr Lewis Jones at the age of 75.

Jones was secretary for the club from 1953 to 1998. He then stayed on the 'Blues Committee' until the end of 2004-2005 season and served 52 years in all with his beloved club.

In 1969 Jones steered the Blaenavon Blues 'A' side into membership of the Welsh League. In the same year their second XI successfully joined the Gwent Senior League.

Jones was elated when the Blues won the Welsh League Division Two Championship title in 1976.

He was a very liked person throughout the Welsh League, Gwent Senior League, and Gwent Central League.

The deepest sympathies is extended to his family and to all his friends.

The funeral will take place tomorrow at 3pm, King Street Chapel in Blaenavon.
