A CAMPAIGN group fighting to keep the town's livestock market have come up with their own designs for the regeneration of Abergavenny.

These architect imagesare taken from an initial concept plan drawn up by the Keep Abergavenny Livestock Market  (KALM) group to illustrate their vision of what could be achieved by the regeneration of the four acre livestock market site.

Member Barry Greenwood said, "The plan, which will undoubtedly be modified and fine-tuned in due course, provides not only for a refurbished and modernised livestock market, but also provides brand new amenities for everyone such as a public meeting space, a covered walkway with space for market stalls and traders, and other buildings which could be for retail or office or residential use depending on the need.

"With an attractive feature building positioned opposite Market Street, It also greatly improves the attractiveness of Lion Street and that area of the town which makes Abergavenny a market town. It would beautifully complement the newly refurbished Brewery Yard open space."

The group say their intention is to develop the site in "manageable stages", allowing it to continue functioning for livestock trading and also to allow the cost to be phased over time.

Mr Greenwood added, "With support from Monmouthshire County Council a regeneration plan like this could be eligible for grants. The intention of the drawing is not to prescribe a blueprint but to excite the imagination and help people to realise that a far better alternative could be enjoyed than either the current dilapidated state of the market or the unimaginative and economically damaging council plan for a superstore with massive car park."
