THE change of use from the falconry centre to provide space for another 21 caravans at Wernddu Caravan Park on the outskirts of Abergavenny has been approved.
Members of the Monmouthshire County Council planning committee last week agreed with their officers that the scheme could go ahead providing certain conditions are met.
These include stating that no touring caravans are allowed to stay for more than 28 days, and not between October 31 and March 1 the following year.
The application was made by Graham and James Watkins of Wernddu and there were 21 letters of objection from neighbours complaining about the additional traffic the scheme would create, the visual impact on the Brecon Beacons National Park, inadequate screening, additional noise and claiming the access onto the B4521 is dangerous for caravans.
This application was deferred at the meeting of the planning committee held on August 10, 2010 where it had been proposed that the application be approved in principle subject to the conditions outlined in the report and that discussions be held to establish the layout of the proposed 21 pitches and to secure a more comprehensive landscaping scheme.
Councillors were told that information was now submitted and the drawings show a much more comprehensive landscaping belt between the adjoining roads and the proposed caravan /camping site, together with a limit of 21 caravan pitches.
The site is in a Special Landscape Area overlooking the Brecon Beacons National Park to the north.
