Firefighters have requested the closure of the Llangynidr Mountain road once again as they grapple with the aftermath of a major incident which saw hundreds of acres go up in flames.

Four weeks ago, crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) were called to the scene before others from across the UK raced to join them in tackling the blaze. Military support arrived in South Wales before being stood down last week, but crews remain on-scene to tackle any flare-ups and hot spots that could reignite.

The road connecting Llangynidr with Ebbw Vale, in Blaenau Gwent, was shut while firefighting efforts were ongoing but reopened briefly at the end of last week. However, fire services have once again requested a closure between the turning for Llangattock and the junction with the Heads of the Valleys Road. It’s due to smoke blowing across the road and making driving conditions dangerous.
