TEN Crickhowell girls are setting light to netball courts around Britain as they consistently deliver fiery performances for their local Beacons Netball club.
Aged 11 to 14, the girls have played at the Welsh Clubs Championship at Deeside Leisure Centre in North Wales and at the Pontins Tournament in Brean Sands, Somerset against teams from all over the UK.
At Deeside the U14's came seventh – their highest placing so far, and 13-year-old player Georgie Wood was named in the 'Top Twenty' at the Tournament by the new Wales high performance coach, Melissa Hyndman.
At Brean Sands competition was tougher – being a nationwide event – but the girls still recorded five wins and learned a great deal to boot. The club warmly accepted an invitation from Trinity netball club Oxford for a friendly tournament which will take place at the beginning of the new season.
The girls also played a blinder off-court, helping their club to raise over £1,000 to cover the costs of transport and accommodation.
The fundraising campaign was led by events such as car-washing in the car park of the Coach and Horses in Llangynidr, a quiz-come-raffle and auction at The Dragon Inn, Crickhowell, plus fundraising with various stalls at the Crickhowell Junior Fun day.
The girls want to thank all the above-mentioned businesses for their help and others who provided prizes for the raffle and auction.
Club chairwoman Ade Roden said, "I hope we can build on the success of this season to have an even better year next year.
"There is a great atmosphere at the club and members can make new friends with girls from all over South Powys.
"Each year the older girls move on as they head for college or university so we're always looking for new members and I can whole-heartedly recommend it "
"We also need mums and dads who can spare a few hours to help out with club matters and new sponsors."
The Club has about 30 members and training sessions are held on Wednesdays from 5pm to 7pm at Brecon Leisure Centre.
