Abergavenny Arts Festival 2022 was launched on Saturday, March 12 with a tantalising taster of what the main festival will offer on Saturday, June 18.

There was an Arts Market where fine artists, a bespoke jewellery designer and a textile artist displayed their work. Jantien Powell of Chapel Cottage Gallery also painted gorgeous sunflowers which she sold in aid of the Ukrainian Appeal.

In addition Textile artist, Jan Thomas demonstrated how she creates her layered landscapes inspired by the stunning mountains which surround Abergavenny.

Children enjoyed the face ainting and the opportunity to try their hand at jewellery making, mark making on ceramics and printing individual cards for Mothers Day and Easter. On display was a huge, colourful panel which pupils of Deri View Primary School created just before the Pandemic during a project led by artist, Danielle Farrington.

While in the Theatre musical performance we’re provided by Synergy Choir, jazz and swing with Russell Jones Jnr, a selection of musical theatre songs from AAODS Juniors forthcoming show “ We Will Rock You”, a Jazz session with James Chadwick and Martha Skilton and even a demonstration of the art of Tai Chi with maestro Keith Evers.

Everyone in the Café area were treated to a selection of acoustic performances from local musicians Tom Murray, Michael Parker, The Sax Pistols, Ronnie ThreeCords and Jim Ramsey as they relaxed with a cup of tea or coffee.

What an intense and jam packed three hours. Chair of Abergavenny Arts Festival said: “All the organising committee were thrilled with the success of the day including the number of people who turned out and the enthusiasm expressed by everyone who came along, which far exceeded our expectations.”
