THE Legend of Sleepy Hollow is being brought to Melville Theatre in Abergavenny this September.

Following the success of previous productions of ‘Nutcrackers’ and ‘The Life she Sailed’ Spontaneous Pros is now returning to the theatre in Abergavenny to bring another exciting production for the community to enjoy.

‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ is written by an American author Washington Irving. It has been adapted by Alexander Wright for the stage and directed by Sam Densham. The story is set in 1790 and follows Ichabod Crane, a superstitious schoolteacher who moved to Sleepy Hollow to find out that its more peaceful appearance is hiding a mystic side.

The show is taking place on September 11 at 1pm and 7pm, each ticket is £7 and following high demand, they added an extra viewing for the community to attend.

The show is 50 minutes and brings together, storytelling, movement and music, enabling people to feel immersed into the show. The production features a cast of three, demonstrating how a small ensemble can create an immersive theatrical experience.

Members of the Spontaneous Pros team were recently out in the community. Walking the streets of Abergavenny they were handing out posters and using props to give people a taste of what to expect from the show. With music helping grab people’s attention, the team brought a little of the show’s personality to the streets, as the the community were able to get a feel for the performance before they even take to their seats.

Melville Centre for the Arts is a fringe studio venue and community arts hub in Abergavenny. The centre provides a varied programme from live performances, workshops, community groups and projects people can come together and take part in.

Spontaneous Pros is an entertainment and educational theatre company based in South Wales. It was founded by Director, Sam Densham and plays an integral part in the community because they use accessible and inclusive performances as a way of encouraging social interaction, providing a place people can go to to talk to others to help tackle loneliness.

They use theatre as a way of encouraging social interaction for people in the community. As part of its wider community work they deliver tailored outreach programmes designed to support neurodivergent individuals and those on the autism spectrum.

The community have a chance to meet the actors and actresses after the show, contributing towards the strong inclusive nature they promote.

More performances are taking place on September 15 in the Phyllis Maud Theatre in Newport, and September 16 at The Met Theatre in Abertillery, both starting at 1pm.

More than just a production, the show is an opportunity for the community to socialise, connect and feel a part of something special happening in the community. Giving residents a glimpse of the show before the production helps to build excitement, and strengthen the sense of togetherness across the town.
