IT will be all aboard for an evening of “wit, warmth, and wonderful music” when Monmouth Music Theatre present HMS Pinafore next month.

Gilbert & Sullivan’s sparkling comic operetta has charmed audiences for generations and is “brimming with witty wordplay, unforgettable melodies, and delightfully absurd twists”.

HMS Pinafore is from September 17-19

HMS Pinafore tells the tale of love, duty, and social ambition aboard a proud British warship, where class boundaries are challenged and nothing is quite as it seems.

Step on deck and meet a truly colourful crew: the noble Captain Corcoran; his strong-willed daughter Josephine, torn between love and duty; the dashing and devoted sailor Ralph Rackstraw; and the bustling Little Buttercup.

Adding to the chaos is the exceedingly self-important Sir Joseph Porter, accompanied by his ever-admiring “sisters, cousins, and aunts,” who descend upon the ship with comic consequence.

Alongside them are Dick Deadeye, and a lively chorus of sailors and crew who keep the ship — and the humour — afloat.

As loyalties are tested, romances blossom, and secrets unravel in the most unexpected fashion, the story sails through a sea of satire, poking fun at class, authority, and British institutions with Gilbert & Sullivan’s signature charm.

Featuring beloved songs such as I Am the Captain of the Pinafore, When I Was a Lad and He Is an Englishman, the operetta is packed with “toe-tapping tunes and laugh-out-loud moments” for audiences of all ages.

Bursting with energy, humour, and heart, HMS Pinafore is “a joyful celebration of love that refuses to be confined by rank or expectation”.
