Abergavenny will host its seventh annual book fair this weekend with over a dozen of the country’s best sellers arriving in the town.

On Saturday September 26, second hand an antiquarian book dealers from across Wales, the Midlands and the West of England will set up their stall between 10am and 4pm for what promises to be an excellent day celebrating a wide range of art and literature.

“We’re delighted to welcome leading book dealers from across Wales and the West of England to Abergavenny for a day of browsing, selling and buying,” said organiser, Dr Matthew Butler.

“There will be thousands of books, fact and fiction, on a wide range of subjects with prices to suit everyone. Our exhibitors include specialists in books about Wales and the Borders, historic literature, modern novels, collectible first editions, beautiful illustrated editions, the natural world, architecture, archaeology, and many other topics.”

The Fair is organised by the Provincial Booksellers Fair Association (PBFA), the largest bookselling association in Europe, which is dedicated to supporting the trade of rare, out of print, second hand and antiquarian books. Full details are on the PBFA website.

The fair venue - The Priory Centre on Monk Street - is very central, at the top end of the main car park in Abergavenny and right next door to the historic Abergavenny Priory. The organisers and sellers are also encouraging everyone interested in coming to the book fair to make a day of it in town. Why not pick up a good book and have a coffee at the community cafe in the Tithe Barn or head into town for a bite to eat?

Abergavenny is also one of the food capitals of Wales (see our picture spread for highlights from this year’s food festival), as well as having a number of stunning green spaces, making it the ideal place to unwind and relax to chalk off a chapter or two.
