THIS Saturday will mark the end of an era for Blaenavon Blues AFC as they play their final game at the Co-op Field.

The Blues have organised one last fixture on their traditional turf before the builders move in and swallow the ground up as part of the council's development of the area.

The Blues present squad are penciled in to play against a squad of former players in a special game to say farewell to the old ground.

The Co-op pitch has seen the Blues experience life in the top division of the Welsh league during the 1980's as well as the grass roots football of the Gwent Central league, and its predecessor - the Pontypool and District league.

The club are urging all former players to come along and watch the game, and if you wish to play in the match itself, there are still limited places available.

Post match there will be refreshments back at the Blues headquarters of Forgeside RFC, where all can have a chat and catch up and reminisce about the 'old days'.

Kickoff is at 2.15 pm. So why not pop along and see the last ever ball kicked in anger on the Co-op Field.

The Blues hope to start the new season on their new ground, but there still remains a number of issues to be resolved, most of which revolve around the playing surface.

The drainage system has come under a lot of scrutiny, and its currently not working as it should be and as a result large areas of grass has suffered due to the water being retained on the surface. The club are hopeful that the council will rectify this problem within the very near future and the Blues can start the new season on the Memorial ground.
