Our Lady and St Michael’s R C Primary School in Abergavenny is taking part in a Lead Creative Schools project funded by the Arts Council of Wales.

The school’s Year 3 and Year 4 classes are working with creative practitioners to develop an outdoor learning zone with a focus on literacy.

The project will involve building a stage area, a role play area and a reading tepee which all the children will benefit from using.

Local builders’ merchants Robert Price have kindly donated the raw materials needed to construct the outdoor learning zone.

And the school has thanked the company for helping out.

The school’s Year 3 teacher, Joanna Box, said: “We are very grateful to both the Arts Council of Wales and Robert Price for their funding and donation which will allow all our pupils to benefit from this outdoor learning zone which has a literacy focus.

‘‘Being outdoors has huge benefits for our children’s well-being as well as their learning.”

Robert Price marketing director, Molly Pike said: “Robert Price are delighted to be supporting Our Lady and St Michaels through the donation of timber and marine plywood to build their outdoor learning structure.

“With the school so close to our town centre branch, when the school got in touch, we were only too pleased to see how we could help.

‘‘It’s great to see our local school community investing time and effort into worthwhile projects like this and we’re delighted that our support can help them complete the job.

“Branch manager Jan and our delivery driver Dean were delighted to take the materials to the school and meet the children who will benefit from this new outdoor learning space.

‘‘Now we are looking forward to seeing the finished structure and hearing about how it benefits the creative development and wellbeing of our local school kids.”
