PUPILS at King Henry VIII are celebrating ‘outstanding’ GCSE results for the second year running, with the school showing significant improvements on its previous best figures.

Headteacher Elspeth Lewis said she was delighted with the results which saw the number of pupils achieving 5 or more grades A* - C including English and Maths rising to 63.5 per cent - an improvement of 3.5 per cent.

There have also been superb improvements in Maths with A*-C grades increasing 9 per cent to 71 per cent and in Science A*-C grades increased by 9 per cent to 68 per cent.

These results were matched by English where 74.3 per cent of pupils attained A*-C grades, an excellent achievement.

Eleven pupils gained nine or more GCSEs at A*/A and at the top A* grade Molly Bradley gained 11 A*s, Megan Nicholls 9 A*s and Isobel Parry Jones and Sol Klappholz gained 8 A*s each, fantastic!

Pleasingly 97 per cent of pupils gained five or more grades at A*-G and every pupil in Year 11 has gained a qualification.

An additional pupil success lower down the school was Erin Shorey in Year 9 who gained an A* in Welsh GCSE two years early.

Mrs Lewis said that the results were a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the pupils and the staff of the school over the past year.

“Well done to all,” she added.
