Abergavenny Carnival will very soon be here. One of the town's foremost events, Carnival is on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July and, if you want to promenade in the parade or compete in the fabulous fun of It's A Knockout, now is the time to ask for your entry forms.

Along with the main attraction of It's A Knockout, the Saturday entertainment in Bailey Park is extensive and exciting.

Included in the attractions are giant garden games, a paper wizard, circus skills all afternoon, trampolines, assault course, Fiery Jack, fun fair, bouncy castle, rodeo bull - not to mention the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling.  And, of course, entry into Bailey Park is free!!!

And before you get to Bailey Park, visit Cross Street on Saturday morning to enjoy Full Moon Morris Dancers and Fiery Jack, a stilt-walking jester who eats and juggles fire.

Stallholders and trade stands of every description are welcome to the carnival – they certainly won't be short of customers and should contact the carnival organisers for details. And they always need volunteers to help on the day so why not come along to lend a much-needed hand.

Picnic at the Castle

This year's carnival has been very lucky in obtaining the services of "Bjorn to Rock who, at Picnic in the Park on 10 July, will be performing some of the classic Abba songs that everyone knows and loves plus songs from the 70's and 80's.

Peter and Louise Lloyd form one half of the band, having played and toured with other Abba tribute bands until they decided to come home to Wales and form their own, giving it the "Rock" element which Peter felt the other Abba tribute bands lacked. The other half of the band are Donna Males and Ray James.

All are fully trained professional musicians and singers, Peter and Louise having worked with Abba Mania and Bjorn Again, while Donna has been the lead vocalist with The Divine Inspirations who perform as the backing group for the Elvis tribute, Memory of the King.

She is also an actress who has worked with none other than Ken Russell. Ray has worked with Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins as well as Bjorn Again. Bjorn to Rock's pedigree is just outstanding.

They will be supported by local band "Open Ocean" who perform some of the more up-to-date covers as well as a few original songs.

If you don't want to bring a picnic, then don't despair, there will catering available from Taste of Wales as well as donuts, sweets and ice cream.

There will be a bouncy castle and a face painter to keep the children amused. However there will not be a bar, so please arrange your own alcoholic drinks.

The entertainment will begin at 4pm with gates open from 3pm, and will continue until 7pm in the evening.

Entry on the gate will be £8 for adults, £5 for children aged 5 to 16 and other concessions and a family ticket for two adults and two children for £20. (Entry to unaccompanied children is not permitted.)
