A man from Monmouthshire has been sentenced to three months behind bars after stealing a ring doorbell from somebody’s front door.

Scott Thomas, of no fixed abode but known to be residing in the county, took the video doorbell in Caldicot back in October last year and had been charged under the Theft Act 1968.

Thomas admitted the offence and was ordered to pay compensation amounting to £80 as well serving time in prison.

A custodial sentence was imposed because the offence was deemed to have violated a court order already imposed on the offender which hadn’t been complied with, including a conditional discharge and community order.

The sentence could have been as high as 18 weeks, however this was reduced to twelve due to a delay in the administration of justice.
