Llanbadoc Community Council has organised a public meeting tonight (Thursday April 21) to obtain the views and comments of local residents and businesses on Mounmouthshire County Council’s plans to prohibit commercial vehicles of over 7.5 tonnes from using Usk Bridge at specified times.

If it goes through, the new regulations would prohibit heavy goods vehicles crossing the bridge from any direction between its junction with route R106 Caerleon Road and its junction with New Market Street from 8am to 11am and 2pm to 6pm daily. At all other times there would be no restriction.

Olivia Beaumont, clerk to Llanbadoc Community Council (which covers Monkswood, Glascoed, Llanbadoc and Woodside) stressed that the community council had not adopted a stance for or against the proposals.

“The meeting is simply to find out what local people and business owners think about the issue - and we expect there will be divided opinions.”

The meeting starts at 6.30pm in The Council Chamber, at County Hall, Usk.

The time limited weight restriction order is intended to improve public safety and the environment in Usk and its environs by reducing the commercial traffic travelling through the town at peak times during the day.

Any objections to the proposals have to be made in writing and sent to Head of Legal Services, Monmouthshire County Council, County Hall, The Rhadyr Usk NP15 1GA not later than April 29, quoting reference PMP/H45/60.0741.
