Visitors to Abergavenny’s Nevill Street have had plenty of reasons to get into the festive spirit this Christmas after being serenaded by not one but two choir groups.

As part of this year’s ‘Step Into Nevill Street’ campaign, a number of Christmas events and competitions have been hosted and organised by the different Nevill Street traders and businesses who occupy the street.

One of the organised events was late-night shopping on Wednesday December 8 with businesses such as H Shackletons Photography, Feodora Hair and Beauty Studio and The Wool Croft staying open late to welcome visitors.

Keeping the late-night shoppers entertained was local choir The Sunshine Singers, who sang a number of Christmas carols outside the various businesses, and were duly rewarded with a £100 donation from the Nevill Street businesses to their chosen charity, the Huntington Disease Association.

That was followed a week later by a performance from the Gwent Bach Choir at St John’s Square on the afternoon of Tuesday December 14.

With members of the public donating their money the group manged to raise £115 for Abergavenny Food Bank.

A spokesperson for the Nevill Street businesses said: “Hearing choirs in our street has brought some joy and happiness to people during these challenging times.

‘‘We are grateful to the Sunshine Singers and Gwent Bach Choir for taking to our streets, braving the cold and raising monies for their respective charities.

‘‘We hope to welcome them back in 2022!”
