A retired couple from Brynmawr are celebrating a top prize win on the £100,000 Purple National Lottery scratchcard, just a day after dreaming of a win on that very card.
Retired club steward, Howard Phillips (69) and his wife Ann (64) were out shopping in ASDA in Brynmawr when they decided to buy a scratchcard.
Howard, who worked as a steward in the Royal British Legion Club in Brynmawr for 17 years before retiring 18 months ago, said: "We usually buy our Lottery tickets and sometimes scratchcards in Merthyr, but we had forgotten our debit card that day, so had to come back to Brynmawr. As we were choosing the cards, Ann said she had had a dream the night before that she would win on a purple scratchcard, so we chose that one.
"We were with my granddaughter, who is 21, and so we took all three scratchcards back to the car. Ann went very quiet as she scratched hers off, and gave it to my granddaughter who said, 'Nan, you've won £100,000!'"
The couple have two children, Sarah (44) and 39 year old Lewis, whose wife Amanda is from Abergavenny.
Howard and Ann also have five grandchildren, with another two on the way.
Howard said; "We plan on giving each of the grandchildren some money and we might treat ourselves to a holiday somewhere – probably Cyprus. The last holiday we had was to Blackpool last year and I got pneumonia!"
"We were in a bit of shock at first, but it is a lovely amount to win and just in time for our retirement. It means we can give some away, have a holiday and put a little aside for a rainy day."
"We have had a local celebration with family and friends already. We're absolutely delighted."
