Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay has written to the Welsh Government’s Minister for Infrastructure, Ken Skates AM, asking for a general update on long awaited plans for remedial work on the A4042 at Llanellen Bridge.

Mr Ramsay was, last Summer, given an assurance by the Minister that a plan would be designed and work progressed before the end of that financial year, but nothing appears to have happened.

Speaking following a meeting at Llanellen, Mr Ramsay said, “This issue continues to drag on and on despite an assurance from the Minister that work would by now be under way.

“Local residents have been writing to me for years complaining about lack of progress and are understandably frustrated by these constant delays. It looks like another year has gone by without any progress being made.

“Work is well under way on the new critical care centre in Cwmbran and the A4042 at Llanellen is clearly not fit for purpose as ambulances from Abergavenny and Powys will be relying on it.

“I have asked the Minister to respond as soon as possible. This matter has dragged on for far too long. – I’ve received many assurances over the last few years that a scheme was being progressed and awaiting implementation but here we are again – still waiting. It’s time for action.”
