Tens of thousands of homes in Blaenau Gwent have been reconnected after they were left without power for a brief period this morning.

The incident was reported to the National Grid at around 11.24am today and affected homes in Ebbw Vale, Beaufort and parts of Brynmawr. All homes were reconnected before 11.30am and it was later confirmed that a fault with high voltage electricity lines caused the outage.

Blaenau Gwent Council also confirmed they were experiencing difficulties via social media, stating that their “contact centre may be unable” to answer calls while the interruptions to the power supply continued.

In a statement, the National Grid thanked customers for their patience.

“Power has been restored after a short period of disruption to supplies affecting parts of Blaenau Gwent this morning, including Ebbw Vale,” they said.

“A fault on our high voltage network affected 26,793 customers, with more than 19,000 being restored in less than three minutes and the remainder in about four minutes.”

“We apologise for the inconvenience this caused and would like to thank customers for their patience as engineers worked on reconnecting power.”
