The scheme, which is also running in Blaenau Gwent and recently saw Beaufort Street, in Brynmawr, benefit from some fresh paint and tidying up, sees local residents nominate an area of their they feel needs some attention. Then, the local council offers a helping hand and facilitates the work of the local community and other volunteers to spend a day breathing some life back into where they live.
Initially, teams from the council will undertake extensive cleaning, maintenance and environmental improvements following nominations for priority areas from residents. Then, community action days take place when council officers join businesses and volunteers to carry out a rapid makeover along streets which have been voted as the areas most in need of attention.
While a date is yet to be confirmed, Blaenavon will definitely be the destination for the next Torfaen makeover in “the coming months,” according to the council after the local community came out in force for a similar event in Pontypool.
Now, Torfaen Borough Council wants to know what street in Blaenavon needs the most attention. Locals can vote by filling in the short survey on the council’s website. The same link can be used for those who feel like they may be able to help with any work throughout the day, when a date is chosen. Volunteers can stay for the whole day or lend an hour of their time where possible.
