Blaenavon Blues - 3

GOVILON'S tussle with Blaenavon Blues produced a 90 minute thriller which ended all square and honours even.

After a fairly even first 20 minutes Karl Rudakov in the Govilon goal inexplicably

threw the ball into the path of Lee Penry who promptly lobbed it back over him for a

well taken goal.

Govilon then upped the pace. Blues keeper Wayne Ottley made a good save and in the next attack Daryl Brenton made a vital block.

Ben Bannon missed an open goal, but prolific goal scorer Dean Morgan made no mistake and bought Govilon back into the game at 1-1.

The remainder of the half and the first twenty minutes of the second half saw a very

competitive and entertaining game of football with both sides passing the ball well, but

two strong defences on top of their game cancelled one another out.

Blaenavon took a surprise lead when from a direct free kick Jamie Brankley found the back of the net.

From the kick off Govilon evened the scores with a penalty, expertly converted by Dean

Morgan.

With time running out Govilon took the lead for the first time in the game. Full back

Robert Frost curled a fine free kick into the top corner of the net, giving Ottley no chance.

Blues were still not finished and Brankley and Matt Cox combined to send Steve White in

on goal. His shot gave the Govilon keeper no chance.

With the game drawing to a close, Jim Cox fired into the side netting and with the last kick of

the game Ryan Simons free kick was pushed onto the bar and over by Rudakov.

In the final analysis, a draw was a fair reflection of an entertaining 90 minutes.
