An Abergavenny actress has this week made her television debut in a new BBC Wales series set in a university postgraduate’s bar.

Alys Le Moignan, 24, appeared on screens up and down the country last night in new short form comedy ’Backwashed’.The series, which aired on BBC One Wales, follows the trials and tribulations of six misfit students as they navigate through their university lives.Alys, who plays the busybody student union president Annie, filmed the series in Cardiff over one week during the summer."Being on set was an exciting and eye-opening experience, as I’ve never done anything like this before," said Alys. "It was my first time acting in front of a professional camera set-up.""I really got on with the other cast members and we all bonded really quickly, and it was so lovely to be able to create something with such a talented bunch of people."Alys first began acting when she was 11 years old, performing in a school production of West Side Story. She then joined Abergavenny Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (AAODS) when she was 14 and has since performed in over 15 shows on the Borough Theatre Stage.After graduating from the University of Birmingham with a drama degree in 2019, Alys began writing and performing her own comedy sketches for online platform BBC Sesh. It was through BBC Sesh that Alys was approached to star in Backwashed."When I was first contacted about Backwashed, I was really surprised, as I never thought an opportunity like this would come my way," said Alys."I’m so glad that I’ve done it, and fingers crossed Backwashed will be commissioned for a full series."The series, which is written by Rachel Harper and Garyn Williams, consists of six five-minute episodes aired over two weeks. Each episode focuses of one of the student characters in the ensemble cast.Backwashed is available to watch in its entirety on BBC iPlayer from today.
