A mountain fire which has been raging all weekend continues to prove difficult for firefighters and emergency services due to changing wind directions and dry weather conditions, but those on the front line will now have some extra resources.

Crews from Mid Wales Fire and Rescue Service, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and officers from Gwent and Dyfed-Powys Police Forces are working to keep the public safe and bring the incident to a close. They were first called to reports of the fire on Friday evening and remain at the scene.

Now, a specialist firefighting helicopter has been brought in to help tame the blaze from the skies.

?As part of our ongoing assessment of the incident, weather conditions and the resources needed, a specialist firefighting helicopter is now supporting crews on the ground,” a spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said.

“We expect to be at the scene for a few days and we will continue to review our response daily as conditions change. Please continue to: Avoid flying drones in the area as they can affect emergency operation, keep windows and doors closed if you are affected by smoke and seek medical advice if needed, stay away from the area to allow emergency services to work safely.”

The Llangynidr mountain road also remains closed at both ends between the Powys village and Ebbw Vale, in Blaenau Gwent.
