EAGLE-eyed sure-shot Rhys Price is aiming to shoot his way to success after being selected to represent Wales in Olympic Skeet shooting at the Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi this October.

The Usk young gun who started shooting at the age of 12, was picked to represent Wales on the back of a very successful debut 12 months in the Olympic Skeet discipline, which culminated with him winning the Welsh Olympic Skeet Grand Prix at his local ground SouthWales 2000, this last weekend 31/7 - 1/8.

Rhys, who is employed as an electrical fitter with National Grid is currently ranked number two in Wales behind Malcholm Allen from Abercarn, his partner for the pairs event in New Delhi.

Rhys explained, "It will be good to compete alongside a seasoned campaigner like Malcholm and I think the mix of youth and experience should give us a good chance to get amongst the medals."

The Welsh Shooting team also contains another local shooter - Mike Wixey from Abergavenny.

Openly admitting that his success to date is not only down to his own hard work but the advice and help he has received from fellow shooters, Rhy would also like to say a special thank-you to his coach Richard Stepney.

Stepney regularly makes the long journey to the SouthWales 2000 shooting ground at Mynyddislwyn, where Rhys is able to train thanks to the kind generosity of Mike and Margaret Amodeo and staff.

The lead up to the Games will be a hectic schedule for Rhys with this year's Home International at Doveridge, later this month, and trips to compete in venues as far apart as Scotland and Dorchester.

In between all this he will make a trip to Lonato in Italy for warm weather training.

Rhys's hope is that successful shooting results for British teams will go a long way to restoring a positive public opinion on responsible gun ownership following recent events.
