GWENT County division one side Blaenavon Blues were left high but not dry on Saturday afternoon after match official Mr Anslow deemed the Blues Co-op Field unfit.

The Co-op field had an early morning pitch inspection, which to everyone's surprise it passed with ease, another inspection at 12pm after the morning rain and the pitch was still in top condition.

With both sides getting ready for a 3pm kick off the heavens opened at 2pm, for a downpour which lasted no more than twenty minutes, but it was enough to cause the game to be called off.

There was an inch of water sat on the surface of the pitch, so the referee decided that it wasn't worth the risk. A disappointing decision for the Blues players.

The Blues are next in action on Saturday when they face local rivals Cwmffrwdoer Sports away. kick off 3pm.

While the reserve team were in action last night away to Panteg (6pm) and home to Mardy on Saturday (2:30pm).

The draw for the second round of the FAW Trophy sees the Blues travel to the top of the Rhondda valley to face Ferndale BC of the South Wales Amateur league division two.

The game will take place on Saturday, September 20 with a 2.30pm kick-off.

Off the field the Blues have received a financial boost, with a number of local companies coming forward to sponsor the club.

Local plumbing firm T&C Heating Plumbing services have committed their selves to the club for a second season with a great sponsorship deal, which provides the club with a new first team kit.

The club are very grateful to Chris Preece of T&C for his and his companies continued support.

Blaenavon Blues would like to thank Communities First who have provided the club with a substantial grant which will allow the club to purchase much needed equipment such as training balls, match balls, training bibs, nets, corner flags etc.

We would also like to thank Torfaen Council and the Communities First steering committee who supported the club with their application for the Communities First grant.
