Heartless burglars stole thousands of pounds worth of gardening equipment from a volunteer group in Abergavenny .

Two Stihl strummers, a hedge cutter and two leaf blowers worth £2,500 were stolen from the Greenfingers Project at the Drama Centre in Abergavenny, last week.

Police said the break-in happened sometime overnight on Thursday July 21, with a volunteer adding that the theft must have happened between 4pm that day, and 8am the following morning.

A volunteer for the group said the stolen items were used to keep the local Linda Vista and other public areas tidy, adding that the break-in had ‘greatly upset’ the group.

Suzanne Davies, who is involved with the group through Monmouthshire County Council, sad the incident was ‘very sad’ and would affect the wider community.

Councillor Penny Jones, cabinet member for social care and health added, “Greenfingers is an invaluable and much-loved community horticultural project, based at the Melville Theatre in Abergavenny.

“The individuals that attend the project are obviously distraught about last Thursdays’ break-in. Among the tools stolen were two Stihl strimmers, two Stihl back-pack leaf blowers and a Stihl hedge cutter,” she said.
