Saturday saw and intriguing encounter between Glangrwyney CC and Garnons CC.
Having lost the toss and being put into bat, Glangrwyney made an awful start. Mike Devoy was run out for a duck. Paul Daniell soon followed, also without scoring.
With the score at 13 for two, Tim Jones and Barry Sharpe set to consolidate. Tim Jones was the first to open up and the ball started disappearing to the boundary with increasing frequency. Not to be outdone, Sharpe also started to get in on the act. Sublime timing and shot selection saw the pair share a stand of 158 until Jones perished for 86. Sharpe fell soon after for 75. A short cameo from Nathan Byrne (21no) saw the village boys push the total to 206-6 from their allotted overs.
The Garnons innings started in a similar manner to the home teams. Barry Sharpe took a brilliant reflex catch to remove opener Jack Stockdale for a duck. A good partnership between Joel Alderson and Alan Jones followed and the score soon progressed to 60 for one. Jones then fell for 21. Another partnership began to develop between Alderson (41) and Andy Johnson(38) before both fell to good catches. A flurry of wickets followed before Rob Pritchard(22no) and James Bolton (16) looked to be steering Garnons to victory. It proved to be too big of a task as they were all out for 176.
Mike Devoy (3-54) and stalwart Jules Hardwick (3-40) being the pick of the bowling, ably supported with great economy from Nicki Jones (2-40 from 12) and Nathan Byrnes (2-38) rounded off what was a fantastic day. Backed up with a superb fielding display which saw eight of the Garnons wickets fall to catches.
