Second-half stinker for Town

ABERGAVENNY Town had a torrid time of it in their second-half outing against Ammanford FC on the weekend.

Town lost influential central defender Dafydd Brewer to injury mid-way through the first half, a half in which both sides tested each other without posing any real threat.

All that changed on the stroke of half time, when the visitors Matthew Jones scored a fine goal to give Ammanford the interval lead.

Ammanford were on the front foot early in the second half and had the chance to extend their lead when awarded a penalty after two minutes.

James Aurelious, Town’s ‘keeper made a magnificent save - his third spot kick save in a row - and did just as well to beat out the rebounded shot.

However Ammanford did go further ahead on 71 minutes when Tim Chapman scored from close range.

The visitors secured the points when Gavin Jones scored on the break nine minutes later.

Jones’ joy was short-lived and he was sent off in the dying minutes.

Town now look ahead to Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm) when they complete their league schedule, entertaining this season’s champions, Llanelli Town.

Town will be looking for revenge after a spectacular added time hat trick from Lee Trundle was their undoing at Stebonheath Park last September.

Town v Ammanford: 1 James Aurelious. 2 George Clark (Brett Alderson 70). 3 Jac Evans (capt). 4 Aaron Norman. 5 Dafydd Brewer (Declan Bull 22). 6 Ben Watkins. 7 Lewis Hitchcock. 8 Brett Morgan (Ross Oakley 45). 9 Sean Feeley. 10 Luke Lewis. 11 Sam Oakley.
