St David's Day glory for Aber Swimming Club.

By Staff reporter in Swimming

Abergavenny Swimming Club took part in the St David’s meet at Pontypool Active Living Centre earlier this month.

The swimmers which included Lewis Axford, Meg Evans, Molly Harris, Meg Holton, Sian Holton, Daisy Jenkins, Emme Sherrard, Mia Sherrard and Katie Taylor achieved personal best times.

The event demonstrated the improvement made by the swimmers since the club’s new partnership with Monmouthshire County Council which has opened up more pool time to the club for training.

There were outstanding results for Meg Evans who came first in the girls 10 and under breaststroke, second in 10 and under 50m freestyle, and third in the 10 and under 50m backstroke.

Daisy Jenkins came second in the 10 and under 50m breaststroke and Katie Taylor secured second in the girls 12 and under 100m breaststroke.

It was Lewis Axford’s first competitive swim meet and Emme Sherrard, who was too young to enter the main swim meet, showed great promise by winning both the 25m front crawl and 25m backstroke in the development gala organised by Torfaen Trust which took place after the main swim meet.
