Villa Dino Christchurch U16s -1 1 v 4

Abergavenny Women U16’s - 4

WITH Abergavenny Women’s senior side enjoying a weekend off it was time for the youngsters to take centre stage as the U16s travelled to Newport knowing a win would take them to the top of the league.

It was a dreadful afternoon of driving rain and freezing temperatures but at least the 3G pitch enabled the game to go ahead.

Despite the conditions both sides looked to attack which made for an entertaining first half and although playing against the wind, Abergavenny took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from right winger Britney stone and striker Eliza Atkins.

The hosts managed to hit one back just before the break to halve the lead.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Aber were unlucky not to extend their lead when a thumping shot from Wales U15s’ international Lucy Attwood crashed off the bar and away to safety.

However, they made it 3-1 shortly after thanks to a fine finish from former Villa Dino player Lauren Daniels.

Eliza Atkins completed the scoring, grabbing a brace on the day and capped off a player of the match performance.

Considering the awful conditions this was a thoroughly entertaining game between two good sides and a sign for Abergavenny that the conveyor belt of talent is looking good.
