Ammanford AFC - 2
Abergaveny Town FC - 0
ABERGAVENNY town returned fruitless from their long trek to Ammanford but started brightly with Brett Morgan firing a couple of long range shots over the bar.
At the other end Tom Indge needed to be sharp to save a fierce shot on what was a sticky surface.
On the half hour, Ammanford’s Craig Frater, who had looked lively from the start, went on a solo run and sent a looping shot over the head of Indge to open the host’s account.
Town seemed certain to fall further behind five minutes from the break, but for a brilliant headed goal-line clearance from Ross Oakley.
In the second half Ammanford pressed hard from the off, forcing more saves from Indge, and although Town showed plenty of fight, there was little cohesion to provide a service for the front men.
Matters were put to rest on the stroke of full time when Ammanford’s Johnny Thomas found himself clear and bore down on Indge’s goal, and although Town’s stopper got a foot to the ball in the tackle, it fell kindly for Thomas to roll into an empty net.
On Saturday Town have a local derby travelling to Croesyceiliog (kick off 2.30pm), whilst Town’s reserves who earned a 2-2 at Penypound last Saturday against Ely Rangers, with goals coming from Ben Bannon and Owen Vaughan, are home again to Bridgend Street reserves (2.30pm).
