Game on Gladiators

By Staff reporter in Cricket

NORTH Gwent Gladiators are recruiting for 2017! Abergavenny CC will once again be running and hosting the North Gwent Gladiators U19 team which will compete in the Natwest U19 T20 Competition run by the ECB and Cricket Wales.

The team was introduced last year to keep 14-19 year olds in the game of cricket and provide opportunities for players to play with friends in the competition and also gain qualifications which may assist them in further education.

Players who play are encouraged to undertake coaching qualifications and also first aid qualifications which they may use later in life while also allowing them to experience playing cricket in coloured kit and with pink balls similar to the first class county competition.

The Gladiators were supported last year by Bowden Jones Solicitors and Shackleton’s Pharmacy and will be looking to do them proud once more as last year they were narrowly defeated in a winner takes all match to eventual winners of the competition Newbridge Nitros.

Last year’s captain Lewis Holley will assist Club Coach Geraint Leach in running the side and it is hoped that they can achieve more success this summer.

Home matches are played at Avenue Road usually on Friday evenings throughout the summer and playing membership is open to anyone from the Monmouthshire/North Gwent area aged 14-19. Last year players that participated came from Brynmawr CC, Chepstow CC and Usk CC to name a few plus its a great opportunity to stay in the game and develop some good friendships.

If you would like to become a Gladiator player or are a local business who would like to support an exciting project which your business could gain exposure all over South Wales in a nationwide competition then get in touch with Geraint Leach on 07552756954 or email

Sponsorship packages range from match ball sponsorships and player sponsorship through to main sponsors or adverts in the match day programme. Get involved and support the Gladiators.
